ADAM GRIEVE & MARGARET PATERSON LINE

Picture
DNA Double Helix
Adam Grieve (1774-1849) and Margaret Paterson (1787-1866), from the Ettrick/Yarrow area of Selkirkshire on the Scottish borders, were my maternal 3rd great-grandparents. DNA testing of two 1st cousins (A.B. and A.B.T.), two 2nd cousins (P.B. and M.J.), one 3rd cousin x1 removed (I.G.), and two 4th cousins (M.D. and J.G.) on this line, together with my mother, her sister, and myself has allowed a chromosome map to be started, with the genome coverage established so-far for this Grieve-Paterson line. See Chromosome Mapping for some information and tools.

Adam and Margaret had 13 children (12 boys and 1 girl; see below); M.D. is descended from Agnes, I.G. and J.G. are descended from James, and P.B., M.J., my mother, aunt, 1st cousins, and I are descended from their youngest, Henry.
Click on the image of the chromosome map below (or click Here) to open it as a much clearer figure in HTML with fully functional mouse-overs, showing start and stop positions of each matching segment, the pair of individuals matching, and the segment lengths in cM.

If you subscribe to Ancestry, you will be able to see Adam Grieve and Margaret Paterson on my public family tree.

If you are a descendant of Adam Grieve and Margaret Paterson (I know there are a lot of living descendants) and have either undergone DNA testing or are interested in being tested, please Contact Me, so we can share information and make additional comparisons. By comparing the DNA between multiple pairs of individuals (we can do this by uploading raw DNA data to the amazing free website GEDmatch, if the DNA testing companies are different), it's likely we'll be able to fill in more of the chromosome map. See Here for our GEDmatch numbers.

Those who are on the direct female line of Henry Grieve's wife Mary Ann Coulthard from Wetheral, Cumberland [her matriline ancestors were Elizabeth Hetherington (~1786-1939) and Sarah Dixon (1755-1849) and her daughters were Margaret Grieve (1855-?) m. John Parry, Elizabeth Grieve (1858-1939) m. John Samuel Beer, Agnes Hannah Grieve (1860-1926) m. Joseph Brown, Mary Ann Grieve (1866-?), Sarah Jane Grieve (1868-?), Alice Grieve (1874-1962) m. Michael James Duggan] may interested in knowing the maternal haplogroup from full-sequence mitochondrial DNA of this line – see Here for more information.
